In real-world applications, the lock icon appears in software such as web browsers, which use it to indicate a secure connection (HTTPS). It is also used in password managers and authentication systems to indicate a secure login process.

From a UX perspective, the lock icon communicates the idea of security and protection, and helps users understand that their data is safe. For example, a lock icon on a login page may indicate that the user's password will be securely encrypted.
