License Types

shadcn.io offers three license types based on your needs: Individual, Team, and Organization. Each license grants access to all Pro Blocks and Components while your subscription is active (or permanently with a Lifetime license).

Individual License

The Individual license grants permission to one individual (the Licensee) to access and use the Pro Blocks and Components for personal, non-commercial use only. This license is intended for solo developers working on personal projects, learning, and experimentation. Commercial usage is not permitted with an Individual license.

Team License

The Team license grants permission to up to five (5) individuals within the same organization to access and use the Pro Blocks and Components. All team members must belong to the same company or legal entity. Commercial usage is permitted, including creating products where end users can be charged.

Organization License

The Organization license grants permission to an unlimited number of individuals within the same organization to access and use the Pro Blocks and Components. This license is intended for larger companies and includes priority support.Commercial usage is permitted, including creating products where end users can be charged.

Subscription vs. Lifetime

All license types are available as either a subscription (monthly or yearly) or a one-time Lifetime purchase.

Subscription License

shadcn.io grants you a non-exclusive license to use the Pro Blocks and Components while your subscription is active.

Lifetime License

The Lifetime license grants permanent access to all current and future Pro Blocks and Components with a one-time payment. Lifetime licenses include all updates released after purchase.

What happens when you cancel a subscription?

When your subscription ends, you retain the right to use any Pro Blocks and Components you accessed during your active subscription in existing End Products. However, you will no longer have access to download new Pro Blocks, receive updates, or use newly released components.

To continue receiving updates and access to new Pro Blocks, you must maintain an active subscription or purchase a Lifetime license.

What You Can Do

All License Types (Individual, Team, Organization)

  • Use the Pro Blocks and Components to create unlimited personal End Products.
  • Modify the Pro Blocks and Components to create derivative blocks and components. Those blocks and components are subject to this license.
  • Use the Pro Blocks and Components to create End Products that are open source and freely available to End Users.

Team and Organization Licenses Only (Commercial Usage)

  • Use the Pro Blocks and Components to create unlimited End Products for unlimited Clients.
  • Use the Pro Blocks and Components to create End Products where the End Product is sold to End Users or where End Users are charged a fee.
  • Create commercial SaaS applications, commercial self-hosted web applications, and websites or web applications for clients.

What You Cannot Do

  • Individual License: Use the Pro Blocks and Components for commercial purposes, including creating products where end users are charged a fee, client work, or any revenue-generating projects. Upgrade to a Team or Organization license for commercial usage.
  • Use the Pro Blocks and Components to create End Products that are designed to allow an End User to build their own End Products using the Pro Blocks and Components or derivatives of the Pro Blocks and Components.
  • Re-distribute the Pro Blocks and Components or derivatives of the Pro Blocks and Components separately from an End Product, neither in code or as design assets.
  • Share your access to the Pro Blocks and Components with individuals outside your licensed seat count. Individual licenses may not be shared. Team licenses are limited to 5 seats. Organization licenses are limited to members of the purchasing organization.
  • Use the Pro Blocks and Components to produce anything that may be deemed by shadcn.io, in their sole and absolute discretion, to be competitive or in conflict with the business of shadcn.io.

Example Usage

Examples of usage allowed by the license:

All License Types

  • Creating a personal website or portfolio by yourself.
  • Creating a web application where the primary purpose is clearly not to simply re-distribute the blocks (like a conference organization app that uses the blocks for its UI for example) that is free and open source, where the source code is publicly available.
  • Learning, experimenting, and building personal projects.

Team and Organization Licenses Only

  • Creating a website or web application for a client that will be owned by that client.
  • Creating a commercial SaaS application (like an invoicing app for example) where end users have to pay a fee to use the application.
  • Creating a commercial self-hosted web application that is sold to end users for a one-time fee.
  • A team of developers at a company using a Team or Organization license to build internal tools and customer-facing products.

Examples of usage not allowed by the license:

Not Allowed with Individual License

  • Creating a commercial SaaS application where end users pay a fee (upgrade to Team or Organization license).
  • Creating websites or web applications for clients (upgrade to Team or Organization license).
  • Any project where revenue is generated from end users (upgrade to Team or Organization license).

Not Allowed with Any License

  • Creating a repository of your favorite shadcn.io Pro Blocks or components (or derivatives based on shadcn.io Pro Blocks or components) and publishing it publicly.
  • Creating a UI library using shadcn.io Pro Blocks and making it available either for sale or for free.
  • Converting a shadcn.io template to another framework and making it available either for sale or for free.
  • Creating a Figma or Sketch UI kit based on the Pro Block designs.
  • Creating a "website builder" project where end users can build their own websites using blocks or components included with or derived from shadcn.io Pro Blocks.
  • Creating a theme, template, or project starter kit using the Pro Blocks or components and making it available either for sale or for free.
  • Creating an admin panel tool (like Laravel Nova or ActiveAdmin) that is made available either for sale or for free.
  • Sharing Individual license credentials with coworkers (use a Team or Organization license instead).

In simple terms: Individual licenses are for personal, non-commercial use. Team and Organization licenses allow commercial usage. All licenses prohibit redistribution and competing with shadcn.io.

Refund Policy

Due to the nature of digital products, we typically do not issue refunds. Once a digital file is delivered, it cannot be returned—and unfortunately, some individuals have misused refund requests in the past.

We ask that you carefully consider your purchase before completing it. Please also avoid putting us in a difficult situation with refund requests unless you have a genuine or exceptional reason.

Common scenarios where refunds are not granted:

  • You've already downloaded the product but decided you no longer want it
  • You changed your mind after purchasing
  • The item was bought by mistake
  • You're unable to use or implement the code due to lack of technical skills
  • You feel the item doesn't meet your personal expectations or standards
  • You request a refund without offering a valid reason or explanation

This isn't a complete list—just examples of situations we encounter frequently.
