Before you trust the result: what to know about the format, the limits, your data and the tools next to it.
Drop the AVIF, click the background in the preview, and raise the tolerance until the whole background is in the mask. Turn on outer pixels only so the same color inside the subject stays, then download the PNG.
Yes, when the background is a flat or nearly flat color: a studio backdrop, a product on white, a logo on a brand color. A busy or gradient background is a job for a mask tool; the color match will catch the subject too.
Raise the tolerance to cover the range of the gradient and watch the mask preview; several passes with different colors can also work. Past a point it is simpler to use an AI background remover.
Only the matched pixels change. Everything else keeps the exact values the browser decoded, and the PNG stores them losslessly.
Drop the AVIF, then pick the color to remove: click it in the preview or type its hex. Tolerance widens the match to nearby shades; 0 takes the exact color only and 10 to 20 catches compression noise and off-whites. The result is a PNG with real alpha.
Turn on outer pixels only. Then only matching pixels connected to the edges go, so white text or highlights inside the subject stay. Preview mask shows exactly which pixels will be cleared before you download.
Browsers write PNG and WebP from a canvas but only Chrome and Edge write AVIF, and a PNG is what every editor and site accepts. Keep the PNG as your source and encode AVIF, with its alpha, in your build or an encoder such as Squoosh.

No, it takes one file at a time. If you drop or choose several, only the first is used; run the tool again for the next one.
The edit is written as a PNG because PNG stores every pixel exactly, with a full alpha channel, so the result can be edited again without a second round of loss.
No. The browser decodes the image and the tool writes a new file from its pixels, so camera EXIF, GPS position and text chunks in the original are not copied into the result. Keep the original file if you need them.
No. The result has the same width and height in pixels as the source.
