Questions and answers
Before you trust the result: what to know about the format, the limits, your data and the tools next to it.
Banding is visible steps in what should be a smooth gradient, which compression makes worse. Use Dither at 5 to 10% density: the random variation breaks up the hard edges between steps. Viewers see a smooth gradient, not grain.
3 to 6% for an improvement you feel rather than see, 8 to 15% for subtle depth, 20 to 35% for visible texture. Hero backgrounds work best at 5 to 12%, enough to add interest without fighting the text over them.
Dither uses random colors. Mono uses gray only, the classic film grain. Harmonized shifts each pixel's own color a little, so it respects the image. Adaptive samples colors from the image itself. Brand uses only the colors you list.
Mono at a low density, 4 to 8%, adds depth without introducing color that clashes with a dark palette. Harmonized works too, since it stays within the colors already there.
Before. Texture the source, then compress to WebP; texturing a compressed image amplifies its artifacts. A textured image compresses a little less well, usually 5 to 15% larger at low density, which the look is worth for a hero image.
No. The browser decodes the file, a canvas does the work and the result is built on your device; the page makes no request with your image. You can load it, go offline and keep working.
Drop the image, pick a mode and a density, and download the PNG. Desaturate grays the image first for a black-and-white film look. Shuffle draws a new random pattern with the same settings; the seed is in the status line.
Choose Brand and list the colors in the field, as hex codes or names separated by commas: "#4f46e5, slate, white". The texture uses only those, so it reinforces the palette of a landing page or a marketing site.
The edit is written as a PNG so nothing is lost: it keeps every pixel and the alpha channel exactly. Run the result through the WebP compressor to get a WebP back for the web, usually 25 to 35% smaller than the PNG.
No. The WebP texture generator is free and opens without a sign-in, an account or an install.
Up to 100 MB per file, the limit the tool states under its drop area. A larger file is refused with a plain message instead of being decoded.
No, it takes one file at a time. If you drop or choose several, only the first is used; run the tool again for the next one.
The edit is written as a PNG because PNG stores every pixel exactly, with a full alpha channel, so the result can be edited again without a second round of loss.
No. The browser decodes the image and the tool writes a new file from its pixels, so camera EXIF, GPS position and text chunks in the original are not copied into the result. Keep the original file if you need them.
No. The result has the same width and height in pixels as the source.
