Questions and answers
Before you trust the result: what to know about the format, the limits, your data and the tools next to it.
60 to 80 percent with backdrop-filter: blur(10px to 20px) on the element over it gives the classic frosted look. 40 to 50 is more see-through; 85 to 95 is a light frost.
The transparency comes from the image, the blur from CSS: set the opacity here, then put backdrop-filter on the panel that sits on the image.
CSS opacity fades the element and everything inside it. A pre-processed background stays the same whatever is layered on top, so the glass is predictable.
Use a radial or linear fade: a panel more opaque in the centre and clearer at the edges, for a focal glass effect.
Make 50, 65 and 80 percent versions: lighter glass for modals, heavier for navigation, subtle for cards.
A smaller AVIF decodes faster, and the backdrop blur only processes what is visible; the whole effect costs less.
Solid multiplies every pixel's alpha by the opacity you set, so an image already at 80 percent set to 50 ends at 40. Linear fades from full to your value across the image in the direction you pick. Radial fades from the centre out, or the edges in, with a radius.
Yes. The new opacity multiplies the alpha the AVIF already has, so transparent areas stay transparent and soft edges stay soft.
A PNG with an 8-bit alpha channel, which every browser writes and every site and editor opens. Re-encode it as AVIF in your build for the web: gradient alpha compresses well there, often better than in PNG.
No. The file is decoded by your browser and every pixel is handled by JavaScript on your device. The page makes no request with your image, and you can load it, go offline and keep working.
No. The "AVIF glassmorphism backgrounds" tool is free and opens without a sign-in, an account or an install.
Nothing. The "AVIF glassmorphism backgrounds" tool holds your input in the page's memory, so closing or reloading the tab clears it, and it saves nothing in this browser.
Up to 100 MB per file, the limit the tool states under its drop area. A larger file is refused with a plain message instead of being decoded.
The edit is written as a PNG because PNG stores every pixel exactly, with a full alpha channel, so the result can be edited again without a second round of loss.
No. The browser decodes the image and the tool writes a new file from its pixels, so camera EXIF, GPS position and text chunks in the original are not copied into the result. Keep the original file if you need them.
No. The result has the same width and height in pixels as the source.
