Questions and answers
Before you trust the result: what to know about the format, the limits, your data and the tools next to it.
Drop the AVIF, click the color in the photo, choose the new one and turn on preserve shades so the lighting stays. The tolerance sets how far from the clicked color the change reaches.
If its color is distinct from the rest, yes: every pixel near that color changes, wherever it is. Use the preview to make sure nothing else is caught, and lower the tolerance if it is.
With preserve shades on, each pixel keeps its lightness and takes only the new hue and saturation, so shadows and highlights stay where they are and the object keeps its form.
Pick the sky's blue, choose the new sky color and use a moderate tolerance (10 to 20 percent) to cover the gradient. Edge smoothing blends the horizon.
Carefully: skin tones span a wide range, so keep the tolerance low and preserve shades on, or the change spills into the background.
Drop the AVIF, pick the color to change (click it in the preview or type its hex) and the color to change it to. Tolerance widens the match to nearby shades, which a lossy AVIF needs: 10 to 20 catches the compression noise around a flat color.
Turn on preserve shades. The tool then keeps each pixel's lightness and swaps only its hue and saturation, so shadows stay dark, highlights stay bright and a photographed object keeps its shape.
One color per pass. Download the PNG, drop it back in and pick the next color; nothing is lost between passes because PNG is lossless.
The browser writes PNG from a canvas everywhere, while AVIF encoding is Chrome-only and slow. The PNG keeps every pixel, including the alpha; re-encode it as AVIF in your pipeline when you need the small file back.
No. The file is decoded by your browser and every pixel is handled by JavaScript on your device. The page makes no request with your image, and you can load it, go offline and keep working.
No. The AVIF photo color editor is free and opens without a sign-in, an account or an install.
Up to 100 MB per file, the limit the tool states under its drop area. A larger file is refused with a plain message instead of being decoded.
The edit is written as a PNG because PNG stores every pixel exactly, with a full alpha channel, so the result can be edited again without a second round of loss.
No. The browser decodes the image and the tool writes a new file from its pixels, so camera EXIF, GPS position and text chunks in the original are not copied into the result. Keep the original file if you need them.
No. The result has the same width and height in pixels as the source.
