Questions and answers
Before you trust the result: what to know about the format, the limits, your data and the tools next to it.
Yes. Drop the JPG and the tool works on its pixels like any other image. The result is written as a PNG so the edit is not softened by another round of JPEG compression; that is better for an edited image.
JPEG cannot hold transparency and loses a little detail every time it is saved, so the result is written as a lossless PNG. It is larger than the JPG it came from; run it through the PNG compressor, or convert it back to JPG, once the editing is done.
JPEG leaves small color shifts around every edge, so a flat color is really a cloud of near colors. Raise the tolerance to catch them, and turn on Smooth edges so the boundary blends instead of stepping.
Photos have gradients, not flat fills. Use a higher tolerance, 15 to 30 percent, and keep Preserve shades on so the lighting and shadows survive the new hue.
Usually, yes: PNG is lossless and stores more than a JPG does. Compress the PNG afterwards, or convert it to JPG once the editing is finished, if size matters.
Nothing. They are one format, defined by the Joint Photographic Experts Group in 1992. The three-letter extension dates from Windows systems that allowed no more, and every tool here takes both spellings.
Click the color in the photo you want gone, or type its hex code, then choose the color that should take its place. Tolerance sets how far a pixel may stray from the first color and still be replaced; photos need more of it than flat graphics, usually 15 to 30 percent.
No. The file is decoded, drawn and re-encoded by your browser's canvas, and the page makes no request with it. You can load the page, go offline and keep working; nothing is stored either.
No. The JPG color replacer is free and opens without a sign-in, an account or an install.
Nothing. The JPG color replacer holds your input in the page's memory, so closing or reloading the tab clears it, and it saves nothing in this browser.
Up to 100 MB per file, the limit the tool states under its drop area. A larger file is refused with a plain message instead of being decoded.
No, it takes one file at a time. If you drop or choose several, only the first is used; run the tool again for the next one.
The edit is written as a PNG because PNG stores every pixel exactly, with a full alpha channel, so the result can be edited again without a second round of loss.
No. The browser decodes the image and the tool writes a new file from its pixels, so camera EXIF, GPS position and text chunks in the original are not copied into the result. Keep the original file if you need them.
No. The result has the same width and height in pixels as the source.
