Color correction.

Brightness scales every channel. Contrast stretches values away from mid gray or squeezes them toward it. Saturation moves each pixel toward or away from its own gray. Hue turns every color around the wheel by the same angle. Warmth adds red and removes blue, or the reverse; tint adds magenta or green. Each runs over the pixels in that order, the way a photo editor's basic panel does.

A photo that looks blue or orange is a white-balance miss: slide Warmth the other way until whites look white, then touch Tint if a green or magenta cast remains. Then set the exposure with Brightness, bring back punch with Contrast, and keep Saturation modest; a little goes a long way.

The adjustments are applied to the full-resolution pixels, not to a preview. By default the photo keeps its format: a JPEG is written again at quality 92, which is hard to tell from the original, and a PNG stays lossless. Choose PNG under Format when you'll edit the result again.

Clipping. Values past white or below black are cut off and the detail there is gone, which is the harsh look. Pull Brightness back toward 100 and use Contrast instead, which keeps the midtones in range.

No. The pixels are read from the canvas, adjusted in JavaScript and written back in your browser. The page makes no request with the image.

A few milliseconds for a screenshot and about a second for a 20-megapixel photo, since every pixel is touched. The preview waits briefly after each slider move so it doesn't recompute on every step.
