4 steps, no account. It runs in your browser and nothing is uploaded.
Drop an SVG
Drop an SVG; the browser draws it at the size it declares, background rect and all.
Pick the color to remove
Click the background to sample its color, or type a hex; widen the tolerance for gradients and anti-aliased edges.
Check the preview
Every pixel within the tolerance turns transparent; the checkerboard shows what is now clear.
Download the PNG
The result is a PNG with an alpha channel; for an SVG that stays an SVG, delete the background rect in the editor instead.

Questions and answers
Before you trust the result: what to know about the format, the limits, your data and the tools next to it.
For a vector background, open the SVG in the editor and delete the <rect> that spans the canvas. For a bitmap inside the SVG, drop the file here, pick the background color, and download the transparent PNG.
Export settings. Illustrator adds the artboard unless Use Artboards is off; a Figma frame with a fill exports it; Sketch exports a background unless told not to. Each tool has its switch.
The first <rect> after the <svg> tag, with a width and height matching the viewBox and a fill of #ffffff or similar. Delete that element and the background is gone.
Most icons have none; Lucide and Heroicons are always transparent. If yours has one, it is a rect or path you can delete.
A circle or custom shape is found by its position and size: an element without a stroke that sits behind everything else. The browser's inspector shows which it is.
Not if you remove only the background. Keep a copy; if something breaks, the element you removed was part of the drawing.
The browser draws the SVG to pixels at the size it declares (its width and height, or its viewBox), and the tool works on those pixels. The result is a PNG, not an SVG: for a larger output, set a larger width and height on the SVG first, with the SVG editor.
No. The file is read and drawn by your browser, and the page makes no request with it. You can load the page, go offline and keep working; nothing is stored either, so reload and it is gone.
No. The SVG background remover is free and opens without a sign-in, an account or an install.
Nothing. The SVG background remover holds your input in the page's memory, so closing or reloading the tab clears it, and it saves nothing in this browser.
No, it takes one file at a time. If you drop or choose several, only the first is used; run the tool again for the next one.
The edit is written as a PNG because PNG stores every pixel exactly, with a full alpha channel, so the result can be edited again without a second round of loss.
No. The browser decodes the image and the tool writes a new file from its pixels, so camera EXIF, GPS position and text chunks in the original are not copied into the result. Keep the original file if you need them.
No. The result has the same width and height in pixels as the source.
