Questions and answers
Before you trust the result: what to know about the format, the limits, your data and the tools next to it.
Start from a flat gray image. Apply Dither at 50 to 100% density and download. In your editor, place it over any image, set the blend mode to Overlay, Soft Light or Multiply, and adjust the opacity.
Mono at 60 to 80% on a mid-gray base. Gray grain blends with any image, so one overlay can texture a whole project consistently.
Yes. Brand with your colors at high density, or Dither for random RGB noise. Colored overlays work best with the Screen or Color blend modes.
Dither at 100% is dense static; Mono at 100% is black-and-white static. Shuffle gives a new frame each time, so a few downloads make a looping static animation.
Mid-gray, RGB 128, is neutral under most blend modes. Start lighter for a bright overlay and darker for a moody one.
No. The browser decodes the file, a canvas does the work and the result is built on your device; the page makes no request with your image. You can load it, go offline and keep working.
Either generate at high density and lower the layer's opacity in the editor, which you can tune per image, or generate at the density you want and use it as is.
No. The WebP noise overlay generator is free and opens without a sign-in, an account or an install.
Nothing. The WebP noise overlay generator holds your input in the page's memory, so closing or reloading the tab clears it, and it saves nothing in this browser.
Up to 100 MB per file, the limit the tool states under its drop area. A larger file is refused with a plain message instead of being decoded.
No, it takes one file at a time. If you drop or choose several, only the first is used; run the tool again for the next one.
The edit is written as a PNG because PNG stores every pixel exactly, with a full alpha channel, so the result can be edited again without a second round of loss.
No. The browser decodes the image and the tool writes a new file from its pixels, so camera EXIF, GPS position and text chunks in the original are not copied into the result. Keep the original file if you need them.
No. The result has the same width and height in pixels as the source.
