Questions and answers
Before you trust the result: what to know about the format, the limits, your data and the tools next to it.
Drop the WebP and pick 1 MB under Under. The compressor lowers the quality, then the dimensions, until the file fits, and the status line confirms the size. Download it.
Pick 100 KB. For a target that small, lower the longest side as well: a 2000-pixel image brought to 800 pixels is a fraction of the size before any quality is lost.
A WebP that was already encoded well has little room left. Try quality 60 to 70, or lower the longest side. If it still can't fit the limit, the status line says so rather than handing you a file that misses it.
Above about 65 a WebP stays sharp; it tolerates compression better than JPEG. Use the preview to find your floor: it's the real output, not an estimate.
Only by lowering the dimensions. At the same size and the same quality there is nothing left to take out; that's what compression is.
No. WebP is already more efficient than JPEG, so a JPEG at the same quality would be larger, or worse at the same size. Stay with WebP.
No. The browser decodes the file, a canvas does the work and the result is built on your device; the page makes no request with your image. You can load it, go offline and keep working.
No. The "Reduce WebP file size" tool is free and opens without a sign-in, an account or an install.
Nothing. The "Reduce WebP file size" tool holds your input in the page's memory, so closing or reloading the tab clears it, and it saves nothing in this browser.
Up to 100 MB per file, the limit the tool states under its drop area. A larger file is refused with a plain message instead of being decoded.
No, it takes one file at a time. If you drop or choose several, only the first is used; run the tool again for the next one.
Yes. It has no Keep EXIF option: the re-encoded file carries pixels only, so camera, GPS and date fields in the original are dropped.
It always writes a new file in the format you picked, and the status line reports how much smaller or larger it is. If a Max size cap is still exceeded it says so and suggests lowering the side.
