Questions and answers
Before you trust the result: what to know about the format, the limits, your data and the tools next to it.
It's the document's properties: a title, an author, a subject, keywords, the app it was made in (Creator), the software that wrote the PDF (Producer), and when it was created and last modified. Readers show them in the file's properties, and many put the title in the window bar. Search engines and document systems read them too.
Newer PDFs also keep their properties as XMP, a block of XML in the file, and some readers show it instead of the classic fields. Saving removes that block, so every reader shows what you set here. The facts beside the form say whether the file has one.
Some files carry entries beyond the standard eight, such as Company or SourceModified written by Office. The tool lists them under the form and removes them when you save; they're often where a file says more than you meant to share.
No. Only the document's properties change. Pages, text, images, links, bookmarks and form fields stay exactly as they were.
No. The file is read into your browser's memory and rewritten there with pdf-lib, an open-source library. The page makes no request with it, and files up to 500 MB work.
Choose Remove all in the bar and press Remove metadata. Every field, the XMP block and any other entries are removed, so the file no longer says who made it or with what.
Created and Modified are shown and written in your device's time zone, to the second. Clear a date to remove it, or press Now to set the current time. The modified date isn't changed for you: the file gets what the form says.
Not while it's protected. A file with a password or restrictions can't be rewritten here, and the tool says so. Open it in a reader that has the password, save an unprotected copy and drop that.
No. The PDF metadata editor is free and opens without a sign-in, an account or an install.
Nothing. The PDF metadata editor holds your input in the page's memory, so closing or reloading the tab clears it, and it saves nothing in this browser.
Files are read into your browser's memory and the PDF metadata editor works on them there; nothing is sent to a server.
The PDF metadata editor is free and needs no account.
Work in memory means the limit is what your device can hold: up to 500 MB per PDF and 2 GB for a ZIP.
Closest to the PDF metadata editor: Watermark a PDF, Sign a PDF, Add page numbers to a PDF, Compress PDF. Each opens on its own page, free and in the browser.
The PDF metadata editor is one of 15 in its group. The group's page, /tools/file, lists them all.
The tool is free. Its interface is built from shadcn.io's own components (Button, Input, Slider and the rest of the registry under /ui), which come in React, Vue, Svelte and Solid. Pro adds the blocks and templates for the product around it.
